Autism Biofeedback Services
The autism services offered at Northwest Biofeedback Center have shown dramatic results, helping improve social skills, academic performance, self-expression and much more. There is nothing much more satisfying than seeing a patient make eye contact with his parents for the first time, or to see a child develop a sense of humor. Over the last 20-plus years, Northwest Biofeedback Center’s drug-free neurofeedback approach (combining brainwave and biofeedback EEG treatments) has led to remarkable improvements.
What is Autism?
Autism is the name given to a group of disabilities affecting the development of a child, known as “autism spectrum disorders.” These issues can have adverse affects on many basic skills, including socialization and communication.
Symptoms of Autism
Symptoms typically appear before the age of 3 and often last a lifetime. Sometimes they are mild, but other times they are debilitating. They include:
- Trouble communicating verbally as well as understanding language
- An inability to participate in a conversation even though the child can speak
- Showing a preference to play alone because of difficulty making friends
- Patterns of behavior such as spinning, hand-flapping and banging of the head, as well as other repetitive movements of the body
- A preoccupation with certain objects
Causes of Autism
There are several potential factors that have been identified as contributing to autism, although the exact cause of the condition is not yet known. Heredity, certain problems at birth, infections and other neurological and metabolic factors are thought to play a role.
Biotherapy Treatments for Autism
At Dr. Joseph N. O’Donnell & Associates, our ADD/ADHD services have helped 60-80% of our autistic patients. We employ a drug-free approach that uses neurofeedback therapy to achieve results that cannot be matched by any other Chicago-area therapist.
