Pain Treatment
Pain treatment may be necessary when someone constantly feels discomfort. Even though pain is the body’s way of letting a person know something is wrong, constant pain requires specialized attention. Northwest Biofeedback Center has more than 20 years of experience in helping people deal with this issue.
What is Pain?
There are two main categories of pain – acute and chronic. Acute pain occurs, for example, when someone accidentally touches a hot stove or stubs their toe. That pain does not actually originate in the hand or toe, but rather in the brain. When a nerve has been damaged, it sends a signal to nerves located in the spinal cord. These nerves then send chemicals to the area of the brain that serve as pain centers. The brain then sends a message to the spinal cord, and then the message is relayed to the body part that has been damaged. Chronic pain, on the other hand, is typically associated with changes in the body or from an older injury.
Symptoms of Pain
Signs that you should consider getting pain treatment include a shooting or burning feeling, and discomfort that does not go away after an injury or illness. Other symptoms include continued tightness, soreness, stiffness or other discomfort.
Treating Pain
At Dr. Joseph N. O’Donnell & Associates, we employ several advanced pain management techniques that help the brain produce neurochemicals that help to shut out many types of pain. We use computer technology to monitor brain wave activity, helping the brain respond more effectively to pain signals. Our approach does not include pain medications, and, unlike surgery, is non-invasive.
